Presentation Description |
Description of Topic/Presentation: This joint workshop with Caltech and PMI-OC’s Industry Affinity Groups is a primer for the Caltech Center for Technology & Management course “Predictability & Flexibility: Juggling Multiple Projects.” The course teaches how to navigate complexity and maintain flexibility across projects and is an elective in the Advanced Project Management Certificate program. This workshop provides an opportunity for prospective students to discuss problems and challenges in their job or industry, learn about the course, and chart a path toward problem solving using the course material. Caltech and PMI-OC staff will host the workshop in a board room format, with discussion, problem solving, and coaching tailored to the course and the specific needs of the workshop attendees. PMI-OC members receive a 20% discount from Caltech towards the cost of the course. Public attendees who complete the full workshop will receive a 10% discount towards the cost of the course. If a public attendee joins PMI-OC before applying the discount to their course, then they will get the 20% PMI-OC member discount. The non-member discount expires 90 days after the workshop if not used to register for a course. All discounts are non-transferrable and may not be combined with other promotions, except as Caltech may allow. What You Will Learn:

Speaker Bios |
Tim Boyd Tim Boyd is a keynote speaker, senior technical leader, and instructor with Caltech’s Center for Technology and Management Education. He works at the intersection of execution and leadership, where many projects and programs struggle. With deep experience in systems engineering, project and program management, he has led many complex, high-stakes initiatives inside engineering-driven organizations where success depends on far more than schedules, metrics, and process. His work focuses on the human side of project success, including influencing without authority, emotional intelligence under pressure, and leading through uncertainty, failure, and organizational change. Known for his candid, grounded style, Tim helps audiences understand how culture, behavior, and decision-making shape outcomes long before a milestone slips. Participants leave his sessions with practical insight, stronger self-awareness, and tools they can apply immediately in real-world project environments. Tim also hosts Curious and Cuirky, a Caltech podcast exploring how leaders think, choose, and adapt in rapidly changing technical environments by unpacking innovation and poking at conventional wisdom. |
