"Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts."

Author: Brene Brown

January 19, 2023

Presentation Description

Description of Topic/Presentation:

Back when we were young, we read all sorts of books for leisure, such as “Lord of the Rings”, “Harry Potter”, “A Wrinkle in Time”, etc. There was no requirement except that it was a good and entertaining read! However, things have changed now as adults – we also look for books that help us grow.  Especially, since we are also project managers (or aspiring project managers), we look for relevant books to help us become better project managers, better members of a team, and better leaders.  Let’s make the learning easier and have the material stick by taking part in the PMI-OC Book Club!

At this meeting, we will discuss the current book, "Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts." by Brene Brown.  We will explore the content and its themes and discuss possible actionable takeaways.  This isn’t a book to relax to and idly read – it’s something to learn from and possibly use in your life.

Brown writes, “One of the most important findings of my career is that daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are 100 percent teachable, observable, and measurable. It’s learning and unlearning that requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with your whole heart. Easy? No. Because choosing courage over comfort is not always our default. Worth it? Always. We want to be brave with our lives and our work. It’s why we’re here.”
