LEGO Serious Play: Fostering Creative Confidence and Effective Teamwork

Speakers: Dr. Rachel Bodell, Dr. Marlon Ware, and Dr. Wendi Dykes McGehee

January 20, 2024

Presentation Description

Description of Topic/Presentation:

Leaders don’t have all the answers, and their success is dependent on hearing all voices in the room and tapping into the knowledge that exists. Though people naturally want to contribute, to be part of something bigger, and to take ownership of their projects, they often work suboptimally leaving knowledge untapped in team members. In this complex and adaptive world, we must intentionally allow each team member to contribute and speak out resulting in a more sustainable business model.

Join us at this creative, engaging, and reflective Breakfast Meeting as we (Omit: talk and) play together while discussing challenges and solutions in our work fields! The discussion will be led by two certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) facilitators and an academic leader, one of whom previously worked for the LEGO® company. Individuals will be guided in the LSP methodology to use LEGO® bricks to build models that metaphorically represent their personal or business challenges. This innovative, experimental process is designed to build creative confidence and enhance business performance.

At this guided workshop, we will achieve the following:

  • Learn to use the language of "LEGO" for complex problem-solving
  • Consider current work challenges and begin to build possible solutions, utilizing hands-on thinking and teamwork
  • Explore problem-solving skills and use of imagination while building resilience and open communication between teammates
  • “Lean Forward” into a participative conversation about effective implementations for professional and personal obstacles.
