2024 April ATS -- 4 PDUs

Power Skills

Presentation Title:

Essential Negotiating Skills for Project Managers.

Presentation Topics:

  • Understanding the Negotiation Landscape: Project managers must first grasp the context and environment in which negotiations take place. This includes identifying stakeholders, their interests, and the power dynamics at play. Understanding the broader project goals and constraints is crucial in setting the stage for effective negotiation.
  • Effective Communication: Communication is at the heart of successful negotiation. Project managers must be adept at both verbal and non-verbal communication. Clear and concise articulation of project objectives, expectations, and potential risks is essential for building trust and rapport with stakeholders.
  • Conflict Resolution: Conflict is inevitable in project management. The ability to identify, manage, and resolve conflicts constructively is a key negotiating skill. We will explore strategies and techniques for addressing conflicts while preserving positive relationships among team members and stakeholders.
  • Negotiating in Cross-Cultural Environments: In today's globalized world, project managers often collaborate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. We will address the unique challenges of negotiating in cross-cultural settings and provide strategies for bridging cultural gaps.

Practice Exercise:

  • Various Scenarios will be provided on an individual and group basis.  Attendees will learn how to negotiate and think about their choices by understanding both sides the scenarios provide.
