Changing Risk Leadership: Avoiding Hidden Project Pitfalls and Improving Performance

Goals (By the end of the presentation, the attendees will be able to understand):

  • The concepts of the psychology of risk safety and risk transparency
  • Strategies and techniques for having open and constructive discussions of risks
  • Strategies and techniques for fostering ownership, integrity and commitment from the project team and handling projects in crisis from lack of adequate an safe, open risk discussions

  • Fostering ownership, integrity and commitment from the project team

Practice Exercises:

  • Discuss hidden risks and the barriers to reporting these risks
  • Determine the best strategies to have open discussion of risks for a set of scenarios

Bio

Kevin Gates, PMP, CSM

Kevin W. Gates, PMP, CSM, is a project manager and educator with more than 25 years’ project management experience. Over his career he has been brought on to correct projects that are in crisis. He has developed strategies and techniques to create risk transparency and foster ownership, integrity and commitment from project teams.

Mr. Gates has worked on projects for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, United States Agency for International Development, Esri, United States Navy, United States Air Force and United Illuminating. He has worked on projects in the fields of healthcare, housing, urban development, software development and IT infrastructure.

Mr. Gates is founder of PM Mastery, a training and consulting firm. His interest includes psychology safety, risk leadership and managing projects in crisis.

Cancellation Policy

Reservations must be cancelled no later than 10 pm PST three days prior to the event in order to receive a refund. All cancellations (including duplicate registrations) are subject to a 10% Administrative fee. To cancel, send an email to registration_cancel@pmi-oc.org and include your name and event.
