  1. Agile Development Cycle

o   Agile sprints, quick iteration, and frequent code pushes

o   Object-oriented programming that is easy to use and flexible

o   Efficient, scale-out architecture instead of expensive, monolithic architecture

  1. Micro services:  About Micro services and their Benefits:

o   Resilient/Flexible – failure in one service does not impact other services.

o   Lowers hard dependencies

o   Standardizes deployments

o   High scalability – demanding services can be deployed in multiple servers to enhance performance and keep away from other services so that they don’t impact other services. 

o   Easy to enhance – less dependency and easy to change and test

o   Low impact on other services – being an independent service, this has less chance to impact other services

o   Easy to understand since they represent the small piece of functionality

  1. Apigee:

o   Building API proxies for Restful services.

o   How HTTP-based APIs that interact with your services

  1. Monitoring Tools: 

o   New Relic: Client reporting tool

o   Grafana: Visualization of transactional data

o   Prometheus: Built in, code based transactional data capture and storage (with little/no overhead on service)

o   Splunk: Searchable log database

o   Moogsoft: Uniform alert mechanism

John Tran, Senior Software Engineering II, BS Computer Science, is the development lead for ATT/DirecTV/DirecTVNOW ‘s latest Open Video Platform Authentication Team.  He has been a software developer for over 10+ years and specializes in Cloud based microservice development, design, and architecture. John focuses heavily on creating fast, cost-effective, efficient solutions to best serve the overall ATT Video customer base while keeping the big-picture in mind.  He is a firm believer of “Extreme Ownership” and tries to practice it in all aspect of life even outside of the work place
