PMP®/CAPM® Prep Workshop

Advanced Topic Seminars (ATS)

Dinner Meeting/Workshop

altPMI-OC offers a seven-week workshop for anyone working toward obtaining the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credential. The course helps prepare attendees to take the 200-question, multiple-choice PMP or CAPM examination. The course also provides the required 35 contact hours in project management education (23 hours for CAPM certification). Participants receive a classroom discussion guide and a supplemental text with study questions. They also have access to additional study material. The workshop is held on Saturdays with a morning (8 am–noon) and afternoon (1–5 pm) session, except for orientation, which is a morning-only session on the first Saturday of the course. Both members and non-members can attend the prep course, with costs ranging from $750–950. Group rates also are available for organizations with three or more attendees. The course is held at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa and is scheduled three times a year. altAs part of its commitment to professional development and networking opportunities, PMI-OC offers monthly Advanced Topic Seminars designed to help attendees deepen their knowledge about specific project management topics. These half-day seminars are held at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa and feature skilled instructors who bring the value of their real-world project experiences. A small class size provides significant opportunity for group interaction and individualized learning with hands-on practical exercises. Both members and non-members can attend the Advanced Topic Seminars, with costs ranging from $45–60. Attendees can earn four professional development units (PDUs). altPMI-OC hosts a monthly dinner workshop on the second Tuesday of each month. The workshops are held at the Wyndham Orange County Hotel in Costa Mesa and include networking, dinner, announcements, and an educational presentation by guest speakers who cover a variety of topics pertinent to project management professionals. In addition, a Volunteer of Merit award is presented at each dinner meeting. Both members and non-members can attend, with costs ranging from $15 (presentation only) to $40 (dinner and presentation). Attendees can earn one professional development unit (PDU). A few times a year, a special program may be scheduled for the monthly event at an alternate venue. altNew members of PMI-OC are invited to attend an orientation meeting where they will learn about value added benefits, professional development opportunities, programs, and networking events offered by the chapter. Held bi-monthly at Brandman University in Irvine, the orientation provides new members with an overview of PMI-OC and the PMI Global organization, as well as PMI-OC’s Website and volunteer opportunities. New members also will meet current chapter ambassadors. There is no cost for the orientation, and dinner and soft drinks are provided. Space is limited to 40 attendees. altPMI-OC’s Membership Committee hosts a bi-monthly networking event that is open to all members. Guests participate in networking activities that allow them to meet other chapter project managers. Attendees also learn about volunteer benefits and opportunities with PMI-OC. The event is free to members (guests can pay for food and drinks as they wish) and is held on the third Wednesday of the month at various restaurants in Orange County. Space is limited to 40 guests. altPMI-OC hosts an annual project management conference that provides attendees with an opportunity to learn concepts, tools, and techniques to improve their project management skills. The conference is open to business analysts, project managers, and project team members (both PMI members and non-members), and includes breakout education and leadership sessions, panel discussions, dinner, and a keynote address. Professional development units are available for attendees with Project Management Professional credentials. The event, held at a convenient location in Orange County, provides an outstanding opportunity for project managers to learn, share, and network with their Orange County peers.
